About Zoe Disigny

Born in New York, I lived in five states before my family settled in California when I was a teenager.  I was introduced to international travel the summer after my high school graduation, touring Europe and studying French for a month in Tours, France. During my junior year in college, I again went to France for school and began my love affair with art.

At the end of my junior year, my parents moved to Rome, and I lived with them for three summers while completing my B.A. degree in French and pursuing my M.A. degree in art history.

I worked as a college art history professor for twenty-five years. In the summers, I taught art history courses and led tours in Greece, Italy, and France. And for three of those summers, I established a business in Paris, offering art tours for American travelers.

I live in Southern California with my husband and devote my time to writing while continuing to travel internationally.

Need a Speaker for Your Next Event?

I love sharing my passion for art and travel with others. Depending on where you live, I can join your group in person or virtually (via Zoom). My talks usually include a slide presentation followed by a Q&A/discussion session, but the format is flexible.

My two most popular presentations are:

1. A talk that focuses on how my novel came to be. It covers my background, influences, and inspirations, beginning with my first French class in high school. It also highlights the reasons for the book’s themes—art history, travel, and women helping women find their wings. I also read the first few paragraphs of the novel, in which the protagonist, Claire, imagines herself as a triumphant Nikki de Saint Phalle sculpture. The talk ends with more information about Nikki and her whimsical sculpture garden in Escondido, California. (about 40 minutes)

2. A mini art history lesson that expands upon the four sculptures of David mentioned in my novel. The artists are Donatello and Verrocchio (fifteenth century), Michelangelo (sixteenth century), and Bernini (seventeenth century). The talk not only shows how these works and their artists reflect their times, but it also offers lesser-known insights about each one—from racy to funny to surprising. (about 50 minutes)
